When it comes to choosing the right colours and style of outfits we know all to well that it can be a tedious task. Here are some simple tips to give you an idea and help you with choosing the right garments and accessories for your photoshoot.

  • Keep clothing as simple as possible by choosing mainly solid colours.
You can make yourself appear slimmer by choosing darker colours like black, blue, dark green and brown. Black is currently the best slimming choice.
  • If choosing patterned clothing bear in mind the direction of patterns such as stripes.
Wearing vertical stripes will make you appear slimmer and/or taller.
Horizontal stripes will have the opposite effect and make you appear wider.
  • Scooped or V-Neck tops tend to suit individuals with short necks and/or fuller faces, whereas high-necked and turtleneck tops seem to compliment people with either longer necks or a slender face.
  • Try not to mix styles of clothing and aim to keep it consistent. Family Photographs especially look best when clothing is co-ordinated in style and colour. If however you want to be creative use colours that compliment each other. Take a look at this colour chart explanation to see what colours compliment each other well.
  • Co-ordinate your clothing colours by mixing lights on white, dark on dark and add small accents with stronger colours like ties, shawls, hats, scarves etc... Take into consideration the background colours of images, whether it be on location or studio.

I hope you find these few tips helpful and if you have anything to add please feel free to leave a comment below and i'll be sure to add them in.
